Overview

You can draw your own ready-to-cut art from within the Silhouette Studio® software using drawing tools included. These tools are included within the basic version of the software as well as the upgraded Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition. These tools are located on the left-hand side of the software window. They include various line and shape tools for drawing purposes.

There following tools are available:

Line Rectangle Rounded Rectangle Ellipse (Circle) Polygon Curved Shape Freehand Smooth Freehand Arc Auto-Polygon

How To

To use the drawing tools,  select the desire line or shape tool and move the cursor to start drawing inside the cutting area.

The Line tool is a simple single line where you may click to drop the starting point, drag your mouse to the desired end location and then click again to drop the end point. The Shift key will force the line into 45 degree angles if seeking to have your line lie at a specific horizontal, vertical, or angled level.

The Rectangle and Rounded Rectangle tools operate in similar fashion where you may click to drop the starting point and then drag your mouse and click when the desired end point is reached. The Shift key will force your rectangle or rounded rectangle into a square. The Alt key will make it so your initial click point is the center of your drawing.

Similarly, the Ellipse (Circle) tool allows you to click to drop the starting point and then drag your mouse and click when the desired end point is reached. The Shift key will force your ellipse into a perfect circle. The Alt key will make it so your initial click point is the center of your drawing.

The Polygon and Curved Shape tools are similar to each other where one is for a continued set of straight lines and one is for a continued set of curved lines. You may click once at your starting point and drag your line to the next point you wish to drop it. Do this as many times with the same line as you wish. You may continue drawing from each point until you release with a double-click of your mouse or until the end point is matched up with the start point to create a closed shape.

The Freehand and Smooth Freehand tools allow you to click and hold down your mouse button to draw a continuous free-form line. You may release your mouse button to stop when you are finished drawing. The Freehand tool is exact while the Smooth Freehand tool will automatically smooth the line as it is being drawn.

The Arc tool allows you to create an arc by clicking and dragging the mouse to secondary point. This action creates the size of the arc. You will then click again to start the angle of the arc. Once you have the arc to your liking, you can click again to complete the action of creating the arc. Control points thereafter allow for further adjustment of the size or angle of the arc.

The Auto-Polygon tool provides the ability to create an automatic multi-sided image. You may initially click to set the start point and then slowly drag the mouse to size the image. Once you have reached the desired size, click to set it. You will then find a control point in the center displaying a number:

You can click and drag the slider bar to adjust the number of sides for the image.

If you don't like the shape you've created but don't want to start over from scratch, you can use the Edit Point tool located above the drawing tools. This will bring you into the Point Editing mode where you may select to move points around to your liking, delete points, add points, break lines, or make any desired adjustment to the lines drawn.
