Is there a better way to kill zombies in RE1?

I feel like there should be a better way to kill zombies. I'm pretty sure headshots exist Because I managed to blow off a zombies head with a shotgun whistle I was on some stairs. Or does that just happen if I'm close to a zombie? Idk.

P.S. Sorry for the frequent RE1 questions.

With the shotgun you can decap zombies if they are close and you aim up. With the handgun its random.

Shotgun decaps are also (I'd say like that) randomly not working. Close-up, upward shots are sometimes just knocking them back or killing them with the head on. So that's not 100% decapitation either.

I still remember the joy when I got lucky with pistol headshots early in game, so I had a lot of ammo remainig for later. But... I think the game has some self-compensation mechanic, so that you'll get a bulletsponge zombie later. (and vice versa)

In REmake there really isn't a moment to moment way to be more efficient with enemies. Generally saving time (having to burn bodies) and ammo comes down to knowledge of the game and weapon vs enemy efficiency. Some tips:

• As others have said, if you think you'll be revisiting an area a lot, probably best to spend the resources. Otherwise try to dodge.

• Holding up while aiming the shotgun may decapitate zombies. I think the normal shotgun is a 70% chance and the assault shotgun is 80%?

• The first time you fire the shotgun it will always decapitate or crit the enemies hit.

• zombies in the graveyard behind the main hall cannot come back.

• As Jill you can use flame rounds to burn bodies, although my mind is fuzzy as to whether they must already be down or if they'll burn if killed by the shot.

• As Chris, the grenade sub weapon will blow off heads.

Rooms you travel through alot, try and get the bodies to fall ontop of eachother so you only have to use 1 fuel instead of 2.
Handgun is random in its ability to pop heads, shotgun isnt 100% when upclose and aiming upwards.

You also dont need to kill every zombie you come across.

Yeah, I understand I don't need to kill all of them. Also, do the zombies come back to life? Is that why I should burn them?

Also this information wont be useful but ots kind a easter egg for me, the knife also can crit my friend crited the first zombie with a knife and "headshot" him since I never saw something like that I tried the same for several hours for 3 days and got 1 crit but I took off both arms of the zombie, I got tired trying to decap it so I just assume its true what he said.

Also just to note, In the REmake the shotgun not being 100% decapitation each time is purposeful, not a glitch.

In the original RE1, aiming up with a shotgun gets you a guaranteed headshot but in the REmake it is not guaranteed (presumably to make headshots less common so that you can experience more crimson head attacks). The assault shotgun you get from saving Richard is better and allows you get headshots more frequently (still not a guaranteed headshot though).

Shotgun is the way to go against zombies. Aim upward and blow their heads off. Ditch the handgun at the first item box if possible.

Remember, you don't need to kill the vast majority of zombies and it's usually best not to. Just dodge and run.

Yeah, I know that from the RE2 remake. I'm just curious if there is actually a better way to kill zombies, you know, so I use less ammo when I need to kill one.
